Les Escargots
My father grew up in northern Maine and french was actually his first language, speaking it up until elementary school where he learned english. He told me that our great great great grandfather came to Canada and became a fur trader. This French-Canadian heritage has always drawn me to the french culture. I learned how to speak french throughout high school and started learning about the foreign culture. In my AP French class we learned how common it is to eat escargots in France. "Escargot" translates in english to "snail". In France escargots are served as appetizers. Escargots have been eaten for centuries, with proof coming from the writings of author/historian Pliny, from Rome. Archaeologists have also found shells from edible species of snails in present-day Morocco. Edible snails were recently found in the heart of Africa as well.
